Hunger Mountain Co-op
Hunger Mountain Coop is a Member-owned, community-based natural market committed to building a dynamic community of healthy individuals, sustainable local food systems and thriving cooperative commerce.
Nestled on the banks of the Winooski River in Montpelier, Vermont, Hunger Mountain Coop offers a wide selection of natural foods and products, as well as a full service deli-cafe with prepared dishes for here and to go. However, The Coop is more than just a place to buy healthy food; we are a community resource that promotes nutritional awareness, local sustainability and environmental responsibility in the Central Vermont community.
Hunger Mountain Coop's present location, a 20,000 square-foot structure, was built and occupied by The Coop in 1996 and later expanded in 2006. Prior to that, The Coop had two previous storefronts in the Capitol City after it was created as a buying club in 1969. Currently, Hunger Mountain has over 6,700 Member-Owners.
Hunger Mountain Coop is proud of its place in the Central Vermont community. On our shelves one can find over 1,700 products from local farms and companies; buying locally and contributing to the sustainability of the local economy continues to be a coop priority. In addition, we offer a regular schedule of (mostly free) workshops on a variety of subjects, including nutrition, health and the environment, and contribute to a wide array of community events and programs.
The Hunger Mountain community extends well beyond the walls of The Coop. We offer workshops and classes, both here and at other local venues, larger-scale community events, including our annual Food and Wellness Expo and Earth Day celebration, and other activities that are made available to both our Member-Owners and to the greater Central Vermont populace. We welcome your visit!
