National Co+op Grocers is making a $26,000 donation to local Feeding America® food banks across the United States this month.
“With more than 1 in 9 people in America facing food insecurity, and with the holiday season and coldest months ahead, we’re grateful to play a role in helping alleviate hunger,” said C.E. Pugh, CEO of National Co+op Grocers. "We believe everyone deserves abundant access to delicious, healthy food and we are committed as grocers to supporting solutions that help make that a reality."
Pugh added that in addition to this donation, food co-ops individually raise funds for local hunger-relief organizations at the cash registers and, collectively, they donate more than 1.5 million pounds of fresh, delicious food to their local food pantries each year. Furthermore, co-ops work together through NCG to advocate for federal policy that expands healthy food access for all Americans.
