NCGA Opposes FDA Ruling on Cloning

This article was filed under

Iowa City, Iowa (Jan. 15, 2008) — The National Cooperative Grocers Association (NCGA), which represents 109 natural food co-ops across the nation, condemns today’s assessment by the Food and Drug Administration allowing for cloned animals into the nation’s food supply.

“NCGA fundamentally opposes the FDA’s decision, based on our core values of governing with the interests of our member stores, customers and farming partners in mind,” said Robynn Shrader, chief executive officer for NCGA. “We feel this ruling is geared toward the interests of industrial food manufacturers and marketers of genetically modified organisms, not grocery shoppers or responsible food retailers. Many of our members will be working with us to find alternative solutions to the challenges this will impose upon the supply chain.”
